american flag

(no subject)

9/11, the day that will be remembered by every American alive on that day 10 years ago. It's scarred us, hurt us, and brought us together like no event has in half a century. It's sad to think that so many things separate us now, but at least we know that we can come together for a common purpose if we put our minds to it. It's interesting to see how tragedy affects a nation, what it brings out. 9/11 brought out the best and worst in us. It made heroic figures out of the ordinary citizen and inspired people to come together in support and comfort. However, it also inspired fear, intolerance, and two wars that have drained our country's resources and partly caused our economic woes today. It will be intriguing to see where out nation goes now onto the 20th anniversary of this tragic date.

I didn't know anyone personally that was lost that day, but I've had cousins who were volunteer firemen in firehouses 30-40 miles up the Hudson who worked Ground Zero, looking for survivors and clearing debris. I've got a cousin who lives in NYC itself and is a sports editor for a New York paper. I remember getting home from work at 8:30 AM Mountain Time and turning on the TV. After seeing the ever famous image of the smoke rising from Ground Zero, I remember calling Mom's job at the school district frantically to see if she had heard from Jimmy or if anyone else had been in the city that day. Thank goodness everyone was accounted for, on the day and during the aftermath. Everyone back in NY has also dodged the bullet of illness that has struck so many Ground Zero workers.

So for me personally, my family has dodged the bullet of personal tragedy connected to 9/11. However, so many others weren't so lucky. My heart and thoughts are with all those individuals on this heart-breaking day. May your tears dry quickly and you feel the love that this country is directing in your direction. I'd also like to express my deep admiration for the police officers and firemen who braved literally hell to go into the jaws of death to save others. Even if no one expected the towers to crumble, the idea of going towards a raging inferno instead of trying to escape is the epitome of bravery and courage in my book. Giving a life for another is the highest form of bravery, and these guys did it in spades. Love from a Montana girl, guys and

Also love and respect for all our armed forces overseas and at home. They're sacrificing their lives and time for our freedom just as the first responders did on 9/11. From what I've heard, many in the armed forces are there as a result of 9/11. It inspired them to sacrifice for others. Know that it is appreciated, folks. You and others like you are an inspiration for all of us.

Shiny New Toy

So I've found a shiny new toy to play with/watch... It be:

I watched the pilot yesterday and am now up to episode 10! I love the pretty actors, the team-y vibe (as someone on crack_van noted, these guys just CHANNEL SGA...), and the canon slashy-ness. I swear Steve and Danno were making out with their eyeballs in episode one. I love the character development, the relationships, and the action stuff. While this show isn't going to make me contemplate the meaning of life and there are a crap-load of cliches, it's a dang fun ride and a great hour's entertainment (or five/six hours during a marathon >.<). It's a fun way to spend an hour just enjoying the shininess of Hawaii and all the pretty people that interact oh so lovely!

X-men: First Class trailer!!!

Just watched this and am blown away with anticipation!!! I've always been fascinated with the years before the X-men and Brotherhood rivalry, before Magneto and Xavier were at odds. Heck, I've just always been fascinated with Magneto's character! When I heard they were making a movie on the meeting and early relationship of Charles and Erik, I was dancing in my pants! :P Now I get to see the trailer and I'm already wriggling in happiness. This has my list of "have to see that in the theaters dang nabbit!!!!!". So here's the reason for my happiness. :)

International Holocaust Remembrance Day belated...

I can't believe I'm late on this..... International Holocaust Remembrance Day is usually a day I at least take a moment to remember those who are gone due to intolerance and those who have suffered for such. I usually read some on the Holocaust just so I know what the Remembrance day is for. This year, though, Jan. 27 just got away from me real quick... So a little late, here's in remembrance for those lost, Jewish and non-Jewish, to the hatred and bigotry perpetuated by Hitler and his killing machine. May you all find peace in eternity. Amen.
one of those days

See icon, and yet, accomplished

Well, it's been an interesting day; if that's a way to describe it... Watch out, pissing and moaning ahead!

So I nearly killed an old Grandma who couldn't be bothered to look both ways before pulling into the intersection. Oblivious Grandma + extremely icy roads = almost accident for Sarah! Was doing errands today during my lunch hour and cut through some back roads to avoid Great Fall's busiest street, 10th Ave. So of course when I do that, the little old, stupid ladies decide to drive too. Thank goodness I've got pretty good and relatively new tires. Even on the ice, they somehow managed to find some traction. Add onto this worrying over a situation at work and the shin splints from hell! Yeah.... as the icon says, one of THOSE days....

OK, pissing and moaning complete.

On the plus side, though, I feel extremely accomplished concerning my reccing for stargateficrec . :D I've got my recs lined up and ready to go three months in advance!! That's eight stories per category and two categories a month... And that's through May!! I'm also a third of the way done for my sixth category. Then May will be finished. Dang I feel accomplished... I need a cat got the canary/smug icon! LOL Now back to writing up my angst recs to get 'em ready for next month. Be ready to cry people. :D

2010 Gymnastics Worlds Team Final finally!!

Someone, bless their little hearts, has finally uploaded the full team final and all around women's competitions from this last year's gymnastics worlds onto Youtube. Ever since I heard the FIG has asked uploaders on Youtube not to post this competition, I'd all but lost hope that I'd get to see this it. I guess the FIG has belayed that request, 'cause here it is!!! I've been wanting to watch the Russians win the team event and Aliya Mustafina the all around for months. :D She's such a graceful and powerful gymnast; I can't not get caught up in the beauty of watching her. And she's young! Only 16. So there's way more gymnastics in her future. And with some fantastic talent coming up in Russia and the US (Sabrina Vega!!!!!!!!!!!!), gymnastics is going to ROCK in the next few years leading up to the London Olympics! :D :D :D :D
